Meet Tariq
Tariq Wright, Advanced Clinical Intern
I am an Advanced Clinical Intern based out of Brooklyn, New York. I hope to create a warm, welcoming, and open environment for clients to grow. It is important to me that I create an environment where clients feel both comfortable and challenged to unlock the best version of themselves. Through building a strong therapeutic alliance, with time, trust and transparency, my goal is to make clients feel free to express themselves without any judgment.
I am most interested in using cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, and humanistic approaches to therapy to inform my practice. I take an intersectional approach, combining techniques such as DBT and mindfulness techniques to achieve collaborative goals. I look forward to bringing my best authentic self into therapy. This may look like me using therapeutic humor and meeting clients where they are at.
Due to the stigmatization of mental health in black and brown communities, I have been inspired to become a therapist as a form of giving back. Mental health is something I am compassionate about. I see myself working with clients of all ages and backgrounds struggling with anxiety, depression, and other issues involving life-changing experiences. I have a bachelor's degree in psychology from Hunter College, and I am currently working on my master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling at Brooklyn College. If I am not therapizing it up, you can catch me at a basketball game (either playing or watching), reading, or spending quality time with my loved ones.
